Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Lamp Makeover

My "new" lamp for the basement playroom.

Started out as a thrift store find. In a somewhat primitive style.

A little paint...

On the shade too.
Then some left over wallpaper and a big ric rac trim to dress up the shade.

So bright and cheerful for the playroom and one more project off the list.

Spa Day

Our little doggies, Betsy and Rudy, spent a day at the Paw Spa where they were shampooed, got a nice haircut, had their nails done, and their teeth cleaned. Since they were such good doggies they each received a festive Halloween bandanna.

They surely do smell better. And they're all ready for Halloween!

A Very Fun Little Visit

Mimi just got back from visiting these two little monkeys. Oh, and their mommy and daddy too of course. We had such a great time, we played the ice cream scoop game. Too fun.We, well they, did some rock wall climbing. Got our faces painted...Made macaroni necklaces...Did a little shopping in old town Murietta...And Fallbrook, California...

We framed an old picture... Frame from Home Goods, picture of Mimi, daughter #1 and daughter #2 about 1982
We did a little furniture painting...And pillow making...

And wool applique stitching...

And grand dog playing...

I can't believe how much I miss them. They are just too far away!On the airplane trip to California we flew over the Grand Canyon.

On the way home, this terrible wildfire that has destroyed 3 homes and evacuated 1600 people so far.
I'm counting my blessings today. How about you?

Polka Dot Fun

Have you ever seen a cuter silverware drawer than mine?

I didn't think so.

Polka dot flatware was a gift from daughter #2.
From Home Goods of course.
She knows what makes her mama happy.
Thank you sweetie!

Adorable Inexpensive Centerpieces

Look at these cute centerpieces my daughter #2 made for a little dinner she hosted. She needed to come up with something inexpensive so she started with a 4X4 inch piece of wood, cut into 6 inch lengths. She added plain scrapbook paper to 4 sides of the block of wood and polka dots (Lisa!) cut from the same colors as the flowers. She drilled some holes in the top of the wood block.
She cut a 4 inch circle into a spiral and pushed it out a little to form a flower. Then hot glued it so it would stay in the flower shape.

She hot glued some wire long enough to be a stem onto the back of the flower and then stuck the wire into the predrilled holes.

I think they're so adorable. Wouldn't they be cute for a bridal or baby shower? How about a birthday party or use holiday paper for a holiday theme.

Way to go daughter #2!

Wedding Reception

The mister and I went to a fun wedding reception last weekend. It was for the son of some friends of ours and his beautiful bride. I loved the colors they used. Lime green and hot pink. So fun for an end of summer wedding.

The "candy bar"... Along with wedding cake they served sherbet and cookies...

Street tacos with salsa and lime...

In a beautiful yard with a lovely gazebo.

We had so much fun. Congratulations to this adorable couple.
