A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth.Thomas S Monson
"Gratefulness is the key to a happy life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy...because we will always want to have something else or something more." David Steindl-Rast
A couple of weeks ago I found a yard sale that was at the home of an elderly woman. Her neighbor and friend was in charge of the sale and told me that the homeowner was a widow and was soon to move into an assisted living facility.
Many of her lifelong treasures were sitting out on her
driveway waiting for a new home.
I was so happy to take this beautiful oil painting home with me.
I love the colors,
the subject, and the best thing about it is
the artist who painted this painting in 1965 is
the elderly widow who won't be able to take
most of her possessions with her to the next chapter in her life.
It made me stop and think.
About treasures sitting out on a driveway. About talent. About what we can take with us to our next chapter.
And what's really important and what's not.
Like enjoying this work of art for the next fifty years or so.
