Christmas Party on a Budget

Have you ever had to put on a dinner for 75 on a very small budget?  Well, we did and I think it turned out pretty good.  We served a baked rigatoni pasta, green salad, french bread, and cupcakes for dessert.

I found these cute napkins at IKEA and they became our inspiration.
We made invitations out of scrapbook paper with a silver star glued to the top. I forgot to take a picture of the invitations. These were the favors that were at each plate.  A little star ornament I got at a local craft store 50% off.  They came in a package of 24.
The cute poem I found on the internet.  I'll share it with you on another post.
The centerpieces were made out of computer paper that I glittered and the red paper is the stuff that you cover bulletin boards with.  Fifty cents a yard, can't beat that.
We glued them to a dowel that I spray painted silver and the mister made a little wooden stand to stick the dowel into.  We set them on a cake plate filled with cupcakes that sat on a piece of polka dot oilcloth.  I stuck a little greenery around the cake plate. Every one had fun and the best part was I only spent about $125.00.

  4. Now I need to know what you're doing with that oil cloth, as it seems impossible to put it back together again and gift it to Lisa. But whatever. The party looks FANTASTIC and all I can say is I pity the fool who has to follow in your wake.

  5. You did such a great job Sue! Wish I'd known about it beforehand - I have a small tree full of silver star ornamaments that would have been PERFECT to display for the evening - I would have loved loaning it to you since I'm not using it this year. You know those silver round lids that you get for your to go food at Cafe Rio? That's what I made the stars out of - very cool - and FREE!
