Living Room Makeover

Even though we're right in the middle of a handful of big projects,

I've started gathering things for a living room makeover.

 

 

 

Walls and a table need to be painted.

 

I'm looking for an area rug.

 

Curtains need to be sewn.

 

We're admiring crown molding designs.

 

We just got this chair back from the upholsterer.

 

I'm LOVING that fabric!

 

 

Black and cream buffalo check fabric for the love seat that's still

being worked on.

 

Looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.

 



Guest Bath

I don't know about you, but when I hear company's coming to stay a few days, I start thinking about all the things I'd like to get done before they arrive.

 

One of the items on my list was the guest bathroom in the basement.

 

It was pretty much a basic alabaster box when I started.  Functional but not very inviting.

 

The first thing I needed was a little storage.  I bought the cabinet from Just A Bed of Roses

in Farmington, Utah a couple of years ago.  It needed some paint and a new top, and the Mister was tired of it taking up space in the garage, so we got to work.  It's not very deep but so perfect for extra towels and toilet paper.

 

 

 

 

There are no windows in this bathroom so I thought it needed some bright colors to lighten it up some.

 

Target had this shower curtain on sale last year. 

 

So many colors to work with.  Perfect!

 

 

Now when the grandkids come to visit everyone has their own towel color.

Gotta have a few fun accessories.

 

 .

 

Not too much work and what a difference it made.

 

We had fun with our company too.

 

AND another thing off our to do list.



Headboard/Footboard Bench

I bought this headboard/footboard at a yard sale maybe four or five years ago

thinking it would make a great garden bench.

 

So it sat in the garage and got buried and then uncovered when we'd

clean out the garage and then buried again.

 

A couple of weeks ago the Mister decided he needed a fun little EASY

project to work on so we dug out the headboard and footboard.

 

 

 

 

He cut the footboard in half.

 

 

 

The footboard makes the arms of the bench.

 

 

The ones we saw on the internet or in cute little stores used L brackets,

but he thought pegs would work better and certainly look better.

 

 

 

He was right.

 

 

 

He used some wood we had in our stash for the seat.

 

 

 

I think it turned out pretty cute.

 

He thinks it needs to be painted.

 

I think it needs to stay chippy. 

 

He doesn't really understand about chippy paint.

 

We'll see what happens.

 

 

 

I still need to make it a foam cushion.  Probably I'll wait til next spring to do that.

 

What do you think?  Paint it or leave it?

 

Fun With Gram and Sue

My new friends Gram and Sue decided we needed a little retail therapy in between snow storms, so today we went to lunch and then headed over to a cute shop in Roy called Re Creations. (for you local girls it's on Main St.) The owner was there and was as nice as could be. I wish I'd gotten her name. She wouldn't let me take her picture because she had no make up on and was getting her eyebrows and hair done today. But we took a few pictures of her fabulous creations. Yes, those are two chairs hanging from the ceiling with faux greenery and a clock. She had lots of linens...

She takes old oak furniture and paints and antiques them, then puts them in her shop and they are flying out the door. That's Gram and me and Sue in the mirror.

She had a ton of these benches. They are made from a bed's headboard and footboard. The footboard is cut in half and makes the arms of the benchs. She then makes a cushion and attaches it to the bench.

This was a combination of an old door, a footboard, and various hooks and hardware. How do I turn this picture?? Where's my 5 year old neighbor when I need him?

The prices were reasonable and in the back she has a few booths she rents out. Fun, fun place. We'll be going back soon.

Well, it's done. Now the cutest little tushies on the planet have a cute chair to sit in. I put stripper on the seat and arm rests because they were so gunked up. Then the mister had to glue the seat part together because of a big crack in it. Then sand, sand, sand. Then one can colonial red rustoleum and voila. Do you think it needs a little toile cushion? Do I have too much toile? Can anyone have too much toile?
