Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Taking a Chunk Out of Winter

A few weeks ago we decided that we were tired of this...

So we hooked up our trailer and went in search of this...

We enjoyed three weeks of warm and sunny weather in southern California.

We stayed on the Rincon Parkway just north of Ventura and just south of Santa Barbara.

Max enjoyed it too.

Just look at that view!

We met some friends and camped in a cow pasture on her cousin's ranch.

Just look at that view!

An out of order picture (thank you blogger

While on the parkway we saw this cute little trailer called
'The Egg and I'  one of the Sister's on the Fly.

See, I told you it was a cow pasture.

The cows came and visited us every morning.

Last Friday we came home to three feet of snow on our patio table.

Well, three feet of snow on everything!

Bye bye flip flops, hello wool socks.

Sunday Sayings

"When our wagon gets stuck in the mud, God is much more likely to assist the man who gets out to push than the man who merely raises his voice in prayer-no matter how eloquent the oration."

Fabric Lampshade in Less Than an Hour

I love little lamps.  I have a stash of them because when I see a cute one at the
thrift store or a yard sale I usually end up buying it.  I just can't help it!

These little lamps don't always come with lampshades or the shades that do come
with them are not as cute as they could be.

This one had a big stain on it so I decided to see what I could do.

I removed the fabric.  Just rip and cut and tear.

Then I tore strips of fabric that I thought went well together that I had in my fabric stash.

About 11/2ish inches wide.  Did not even measure.

Tied the strips to the top wire and the bottom wire.

Trimmed it up and we're done.  It took less than an hour.

On these cold and dreary winter days I like to light little lamps
here and there to cheer up our little house.

It does a lot to cheer me up too.

Cold and Colds

It's been freakishly cold here in northern Utah the past week or so.

Dry, cold air and a high that holds the smog close to the earth for all
of us to breathe.

Then there's the altitude.  We live at about 4500 feet.  Not as much
oxygen in our air as in sea level air.

The mister and I caught a bad cold (flu?) right before Christmas.

We slept through most of the festivities.  Coughing and fevers and aches and
more coughing.  Which turned into bronchitis.

FINALLY feeling a little better.

But still coughing.

Sometimes I need something like this to happen so that I don't take
my usually good health for granted.

Lessons come in all shapes and sizes.
