Thank You and a Road Trip

Thank you all so much for wishing me a speedy recovery from my hideous cold/flu bug. You guys are the best.

Last Tuesday when Mimi started feeling better, the Mister decided we needed a little break from our chores and projects here at Mimi's Cottage so we got in the car and drove to Los Angeles. The Mister had a lovely time at Westec. It's a huge convention/expo with all kinds of manly things like machines, tools, and lots of testosterone. He loved every minute.

While the Mister was at the convention, Mimi had a wonderful time here...

I was having such a good time at places like Anthropology and cute little shops I forgot to take pictures. But you get the idea...

That evening we went to Santa Monica for dinner.

We walked out on the Santa Monica Pier.

Mimi wanted to go to this school but it was closed. Darn it!

One of the things Mimi misses most about California is the ocean. I lived my entire life until 2002 just a few miles from the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

The next day we visited with some very important people. Our adorable grandgirls! Oh, and their parents. We went to an Open House at the sweetpeas's school and saw this. Move over Vincent Van Gogh!
Such a nice Kindergarten teacher...

We enjoyed a beautiful sunny day watching a tennis lesson...

And a warm Saturday morning watching a soccer game...

This cute girl scored a goal for her Mimi...

Now we're back in chilly Utah. We have carpet for the basement coming today. I have a lot of catching up to do. We had lots of fun in California but it's so good to be home.

Happy St Patricks Day

I've got a corned beef in the crock pot. Sue's way to cook it, and it's delicious. I've got my green tablecloth on the table. Green jello in the fridge and an asphalt pie in the freezer. (Chocolate cookie crust, mint chip ice cream as the filling, whipped cream on top) Looks like we're ready to celebrate! Mimi loves an excuse to have a party!

A House of Worship

This is where Mimi and the Mister go to church every Sunday. It's the Kaysville Tabernacle and it was built in 1912. It's about a block and a half from Mimi's Cottage so we're able to walk to church when the weather is good.

It has wonderful architecture, wood trim and moldings.

Not to mention gorgeous stained glass windows. In the mornings when the sun is pouring through these windows, little rainbows of color are everywhere.

We love this building so much. We are so blessed to be able to see our neighbors and friends here each week.

We listen to the beautiful music, we sense the history of the people who've met in this building before us. But mostly we feel the spirit when we renew our covenants and worship in this wonderful place.

Bunny Penny Rugs

I've been wanting to learn how to applique wool for a long time. I'm such a visual learner and I do so much better if I can watch someone rather than read a pattern. So when Joy posted about teaching a class I jumped at the chance. There were six of us taking the class, and we had so much fun. Joy has a beautiful home and many many talents. She was a wonderful, patient teacher.

She had lovely refreshments and a good time was had by all. Joy had a blog, Joy's Thoughts and Things for a year, but has decided to go private. So sad, she always had the best creative posts. We'll miss you Joy!

I had my camera in my purse but I didn't take one single picture. Bad blogger, Mimi Sue.
Now I have so many ideas bouncing around in my head. I can't wait for my next project. As soon as we're finished with this...

A Heart for Jack

Have you been over to Daisy Cottage lately? (Doesn't everyone go over daily?) Kim posted a touching post a while back about one of her readers, Tabatha, who passed away not long ago. Her husband, Jack, wrote a sweet note to Kim telling her that his wife would visit Daisy Cottage and feel uplifted and forget about her illness for a little while. Go read about it here. Kim asked her fellow bloggers to make a little fabric heart to send to Jack to let him know we're thinking about him, that we care, and to honor Tabatha and her life here on this earth. Read about that here.

So I made and sent a little heart for Jack.

Primroses

About a month ago Kathy posted about some beautiful primroses she found. She lives way up north in Michigan or Minnesota (where do you live Kathy?), so I figured I'd have no problem finding the little flowers here at our local Home Depot. After all we're way farther south than she is... No such luck. It took our store a whole month longer to get them.

But they were so worth the wait.

Another gray and rainy day here in Utah. But it's a little easier to take with these beauties on my porch.

Dresses For Haiti

A couple of weeks ago Janis, Sue and I were out and about enjoying a little retail therapy when we came across this wonderful idea. One of our local quilt shops (Quilter's Haven) was giving out fabric and patterns to make these cute little "pillowcase" dresses for children who'd lost everything in the earthquake in Haiti. So we all took home a pattern and some fabric and made a little dress. (Janis made three!)Hundreds of them have been made with love by women in our community. I wish I'd taken a picture of the big pile of adorable little dresses for children in far away Haiti.
