That big tree out there is an ancient walnut tree. Probably over 100 years old. Love that tree but it's so messy. We won't cut it down though, the shade it produces makes up for the millions of leaves and walnuts it drops every fall. So that's what we'll be working on this summer. We need to get busy before it gets too hot.

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Summer Project 2010
Last summer our big project was putting in our front yard and building a shed. Check and check. This summer our big project will be installing the backyard. Fences, patios, irrigation, lawn, plants, trees, patio covers, arbors, walkways, and lots of other stuff I'm sure I've forgotten. Last week we borrowed a tractor, moved some dirt around, and scraped the ground so we could get it kind of level. The building with the star on it is an old chicken coop that was on the property when we bought it. We're trying to save it but it's pretty rickity.

a blank piece of ground...lets see what Mimi and Mr can do!
It will be wonderful I'm sure of it, and your kids won't have to wonder where there parents are at!
HOly Cow! You have a LOT on your plate.
I know you will have it all "checked" off in no time though....:-)
Before you wedding? You're having a reception in your back yard right?
I love your walnut tree! I would come begging walnuts in their green pods if I lived close to you. Good for walnust dying linen for Rendezvous clothing!
I also love your rickity Chicken coop with the star on it, adds lots of personality. It's my kind of thing!
Can't wait for updates!
Enjoy your day

Wow! I'm pouring myself a Dr. Pepper just to read this post, as it's exhausting. How will you find the will? I am so impressed.
Oh, wow. You guys are so ambitious! I found your house the other day. I had thought it was the other yellow cottage house-- next door to my daughter's house!
So glad your not going to cut down that walnut tree. I don't know what it is about Utahns, but they seem to love to cut down trees, makes me crazy!
It's going to be so much fun watching your progress! Be sure to share lots of pictures of every step of the way. I'm so jealous of your chicken coop!
Have a great day!

I love old trees. We had walnut trees and chestnut trees around where we lived in PA. I loved them so much and miss the big ones. Messy, yes.
Oh My! That's alot to get done! Can't wait to follow along as you turn the backyard into a beautiful and inviting space to enjoy. I just know it's going to be great!
p.s. the old chicken coop is lovely, hope your able to save it.
Sounds like your work is cut out for you! And here I can't find any more space in my little gardens to plant anything. You'll have plenty of room!
