Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Makeover

I've had this trunk for a long long time. It was my grandpa's. He was born in 1890 and used it when he was in his 20's. So if you do the math, it's about 100 years old. Back in the late 70's, early 80's, I had a goose kitchen, slate blue wallpaper, and lots of oak furniture. If you're as old as me you probably did too. (or your mothers did!) We loved us some country decorating didn't we? About that time I decided to paint my grandpa's trunk. It was hideous, let's be honest, so it sat out in the garage.
Well, I needed an end table in our new playroom so I primed it with gray.

And painted it red with paint I already had. (Gray primer is supposed to be best under red)

I think it turned out pretty good. And now it'll be part of the family once again.

Hello :)
It has been some time since I have visited my friends in blogland. I thought I would take tonight to catch up. I love your trunk!! I have my Grandma's--- it is not as big as yours but very similar. Isn't is wonderful to have such a special family treasure.
Have a wonderful weekend

Oh, I absolutely love it red! I have always yearned for an old trunk like this and one day I'm going to find one. I don't see your email address. If you'll email me, I'll tell you have to fix your blog title above your banner.

What a neat trunk! Family pieces are so special. I love it in the red. I didn't know that about gray primer for red paint. I hope I remember this tip since I love red!
