Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Thomas S Monson

Happy Thanksgiving 2010

Thou hast given so much to me,
Give one thing more, a grateful heart;
Not thankful when it pleaseth me,
As if Thy blessings had spare days,
But such a heart whose pulse may be Thy praise.

Let's Talk Turkey

Like so many of you I sort of have an addiction to dishes.  OK I totally have an addiction to dishes and in the fall some of my favorites come out of storage.  I showed you these plates last year and probably the year before. We use them for Thanksgiving dinner.  I bought a few at a thrift store and then added to the set through ebay.  They're Franciscan Indian Summer.

Have you ever seen a calendar plate?  I love these plates and have a few.  I bought this one because of the turkey.  It's for the year 1941.
 More turkey plates...
I have several turkey platters.  Love the hand painted colors.  See the little house in the background? That makes it extra cute.

 A harvest wheat plate.
 More turkey platters...

I do love plates of any kind but at this time of year out come the turkeys.

Life Goes On

Thank you all for your kind words of sympathy. Your prayers and thoughts are so appreciated and have helped us with our grief.  Rudy has left a little hole in our hearts. We know his kind soul has moved on to a better place that is free of pain and suffering.  We miss him so much but life goes on.

I am on a committee for Festival of Trees that takes place the first week in December.  It is a huge fundraiser for our local children's hospital.  Millions of dollars are raised each year for health care costs for children that are in need of medical care and don't have health insurance.  Christmas trees are decorated, donated and auctioned by individuals and corporations.  There is a gingerbread house competition, Santa visits, kids crafts, fun food, and a big boutique.

Here are a couple of wool felt applique ornaments that I'm donating to the boutique this year.

So if you're in the Salt Lake City area Dec. 1st -4th come on over to the South Town Convention Center.  It's a really fun activity for the family and it's for a great cause.

Rudy

We are so very sad to say our sweet little Rudy had to be put to sleep yesterday.
He had been sick for a while and after a few trips to the vet we decided that his
suffering had to end.  Such a hard decision to make.  We've shed a thousand tears.
He was always such a gentleman.  He loved to cuddle and when it was cold he wanted
to sleep in our bed and we usually let him.  He was a rescue.  We found him
wandering the streets with no collar, so of course we had to take him home. We
tried to find his owners but to no avail.
He loved to go on walks but didn't  like rides in the car.  He followed
me all around the house.  He was afraid of men but eventually trusted the mister.
They would sit on the recliner and watch football on TV together
(such a macho little guy). He loved to lie in the sun and hated the cold.
We were privileged to have him in our family for eleven years.
He was just the best and we miss him so much.

Trashy Pumpkin Novels

My darling friend Janis made me these adorable pumpkins.  They're made from old romance novels that she cut on her band saw, tea stained the edges, stuck a stick and leaves in the appropriate spot, then glued the covers together to make a pumpkin shape.
You need to go to her blog and see the ones she made, then go to Craftberry Bush blog where Janis got the inspiration.  Don't you love all the creative ideas out there in blog land?
