Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Vintage Chandelier Makeover

I've been looking for a vintage chandelier for our #2 daughter's dining room for several years.

I've found a few but they're either too expensive or in really bad shape.

Last weekend I finally found one that looked promising.

I was pretty sure we could clean it up and
get it working. We've had a couple of rainy, muddy days so we couldn't do
much of anything in the yard.  Perfect weather for a little inside-the-house project.

I hope that in a few days it will look like the one hanging in our entry.

I'll show you when it's done.

A Time To Plant

After this long, cold winter it's been so nice to be able to get out in the garden and play in the dirt.

We don't plant here in northern Utah until the middle of May,

just in case there's a hard freeze that wipes out all your hard work.

Even though we shouldn't plant, there's a lot of plants in bloom.

Like this beautiful Clematis.

It looks like we'll be harvesting strawberries soon.

At least the ones the birds don't eat.

The lilacs are planted by our front porch.

Their fragrance is amazing every time we walk by.

A few years ago we planted this pretty blue iris.

One of our neighbors gave us a start.

The ajuga was a brilliant blue this year.  Another gift from our cute neighbor.

This week we've been out in the vegetable garden.

We're adding compost, rototilling, pulling weeds,
 buying little starts
and planting little seeds.

Our garden is the place I love to be in the middle of May.

Polka Dot Cups

I found these polka dot cups at Homegoods the other day.

I love Homegoods.

I really love polka dots.  Especially red and white polka dots.

They're big.  Perfect for holding soup or hot chocolate on a cold winter morning.

Plenty of room for lots of whipped cream or a giant marshmallow.

But most importantly they look so good in my kitchen cupboard.

Don't they just make you happy?

Pretty Pallets

Last week we visited our local garden center and
saw this adorable idea.

Painted pallets and big metal flowers.

Just perfect for the first day of May.

Kind of cute.

I'm trying to figure out where I could put one.
