Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Thomas S Monson

Beautiful Fall

It's been a long and very mild fall here in northern Utah.

I love the changing of the seasons and I

love this beautiful tree in our front yard.

Isn't she pretty?

The mums are blooming.

The porch is all decked out.

The weather's been so nice I've been able to leave the
potted plants outside this year.

But probably not for much longer.

And this cute little sweet pea is enjoying his first
fabulous fall.

I sure hope your fall has been as fun as ours!

Peanuts and Crows

One of our little grandgirls grew a peanut plant this summer.

She picked it out at the garden center, brought it home and planted it in a pot, watered it all summer, and last week she pulled it up and look what she grew!

Peanuts!!

Not usually a desert crop!

I saw these cute crows on Pinterest and thought I should make
a couple.  The undecorated crows are from the dollar store.

Then I just made them hats and necklaces and crowns and signs.

So fun!

Enamelware Display

I saw a cute little 3 tiered bowl thing at Everyday Treasures a few weeks ago and thought it looked like a fun fall accessory.   So, being the great copier that I am, I thought I should make one for myself.

I love enamelware and have a few pieces that I've collected over the years.
I found three bowls in graduated sizes and they worked perfectly for this project.

The posts in between the bowls are wooden candle sticks that I found at a garage sale but I've seen them at Hobby Lobby.

All of the pieces were glued together with epoxy.

I didn't use any screws but it would be easy enough to do if you wanted to make sure it held together.

Kinda chipped and a little rusty and I think perfect for a fall display.

I am.

So much easier than blogging.

So much faster and no stress.

Kinder and gentler than Facebook.

One picture and a caption.

Then some likes and comments.

And then you're done.

Kinda addicting.

Kinda fun.

Are you on Instagram too?

If you are will you let me follow you?

You can follow me if you'd like.

Hope we can be Instagram friends.

Progress on the Living Room

The living room has a new area rug!

I found it at Target last week.

On clearance, plus $15 off.

Had to get it, right?

It has a nice little texture.

Kind of a bland color, but I've got so much going on in there.

It's a place for the eye to rest.  Or so they say on HGTV!

Since I was in the rug shopping mode, I decided to find a new one for the entry.  Home Depot, also on sale.

This one isn't bland or boring.

I love our living room.

It's not very big.

But it's a great place to
get away from the TV and read or think or plan.  Everyone needs a little quiet spot.

It's the home of some of my favorite things.

Pictures of my grandparents and my kids.

A crocheted edging my great grandmother made and I had framed years ago.

A picture of my mom as a baby ca.1922.

Pretty happy with the way it's turning out.

Summer Fun

How's your summer?  Ours has been lots of fun.

And very busy!

Our adorable little grand girls and their Mommy came to live with us this past spring.

And of course they brought their baby brother with them.

When there are kids in the house it means we get to play at our local water park, Cherry Hill.

And go on little trips to the Mormon Miracle Pageant in Manti, Utah.

And camping at our beautiful state and national parks.

We've watched a fun baseball game played by the Salt Lake Bees, a farm team for the Anaheim Angels.

On the fourth of July cousins came to visit.

We watched the parade in our festive attire.

We had a bbq with the family and a watermelon eating contest with the cousins.

And of course what kind of  4th of July would it be without fireworks and mosquito bites.

We picked lots of strawberries from our garden.

And now we're waiting for pumpkins, watermelon, cantaloupe, green beans and a peanut to get ripe.

I can't believe it's the middle of August already!

Our little sweet peas will go back to school in a couple of weeks!

We still have time for some more summer fun.

Hope your summer has been a great one too.
