Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. What's Blooming?

Due to our mild winter our roses are blooming early this year.

And the peonies...

Not to mention the lupine...

The primroses have been spectacular.
Nothing says spring like primroses.

Columbine

Here in northern Utah we really can't plant annuals until after
May 15th because it just might freeze.  The weather here is fickle
in the spring.

So last week we bought a bunch of annuals and a few tomato plants to
fill in around the perennials.

The thing that grows best in our garden?

Storm Drains

We've been having a little work done on the street in front of our house.

Our city officials decided we needed a storm drain.

We've had tractors, big trucks, and lots of workmen making lots of noise
starting at 7 AM each and every day for the past week.

Max has been thoroughly entertained.

He sits up on the back of the sofa and watches the show.

Kind of like a kitty.

The noise and disruption and no parking should last about three weeks.
But I won't be holding my breath until it's finished.

Hydroseeding

We've spent the last couple of weeks weeding, leveling, weeding, raking, weeding,
smoothing, weeding, leveling some more and getting ready for the hydroseed man.

We have such a huge lawn area that we didn't really want to spend the money
on sod and planting grass seed on such a big area seemed like a lot of work.

He showed up on Tuesday.

We want to spend a couple of days out here.
You know, resting and relaxing.

We'll see how long that lasts.

We've still got a long list of things to do for our Summer 2012 Project.

But another thing can be checked off the list.

Thank you Mr Hydroseed Man!

Clematis

Oh my goodness, I love Clematis!

I love them so much that I planted another one in the backyard to
climb up our picket fence.

Metal Cakestands

Do you know how much I love cake stands?  I love cake stands a lot.  I have a large
collection of them and if I ever see one that needs a good home it usually comes home with me.

So, a few months back, I saw this cute idea over at the Pollyanna Reinvents blog.
Instead of pairing glass or ceramic plates with candlestick holders or cups
she paired metal trays with metal stands.

I found some metal parts at the thrift store.

Fifty cents or a dollar each.

I glued them together with E6000.

Painted them up pretty, and there you go.

I'll probably use a doily when they have food on them.

You could color coordinate them for any occasion.

Go check out Pollyanna Reinvents.  She's got a big flea market event
coming up next weekend called Flea-ology.  Wish I could be there!
