Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Thomas S Monson

The Last of the Zinnias

There's snow on the mountains and close to freezing temperatures at night
which means the zinnias are done for the year.

Yesterday I picked all that I could and brought
them into the house where we can enjoy their cheerful colors.

At least for a few more days.

Trailer Bedroom Makeover

The Mister and I have a 5th wheel trailer that we use now and then.

Last fall we towed it from northern Utah all the way to the Mississippi River.

In January we took it to southern California where it was sunnier and warmer
and visited with family and friends.

During the spring and summer we took a few days here and there and enjoyed
the wonders of our beautiful state.

It's just so fun to get away and sit by a river somewhere and see
new scenery and meet new people.

But the trailer needed a little makeover.

I thought maybe I should do something to the blah
interior of our little home on wheels.

See that fabric insert?

Blah.

A little blue checked fabric really brightened up that space, don't you think?

Why, yes, that is a vintage chenille bedspread!

We took down the ratty mini blinds and I made some insulated
roll-up curtains out of a couple of curtain panels from Martha
Stewart's line from a few years ago.

So glad we have white cabinets throughout our little trailer.

So happy with the way it turned out.

I asked the Mister if any of his friends would laugh if
we went camping with flowered curtains on our windows.

He kind of rolled his eyes and said everyone
knows who he's married to and no one would be a bit surprised.

Not sure how to take that.

Maybe next year I'll have to work on the rest of the trailer.

An Adorable New Baby

No, not a new grandbaby!  (I wish)

An adorable little dolly made by the adorable Mimi

Mimi has sooo many cute things in her Etsy Shop.

You should go on over and take a look.

The cute little baby came with her very own little puppy
finger puppet.

Not sure why I didn't take him out of his cellophane wrapper to take a picture...

What was the occasion?

Why it was this little sweetpea's first birthday!

A new baby to love!

And no diapers to change.

Christmas in October

As some of you might remember I'm on a committee for the
big Primary Children's Medical Center fund raiser held each December.

The Festival of Trees is held the first weekend in December and
raises millions of dollars for our local children's hospital.

One of the events of the weekend is a boutique with mostly
hand made items for sale.  Everyone that's on a committee is asked to donate
ten items for the boutique.

Usually I wait til the very last minute.  This year I'm a couple of weeks early.

Here's what I came up with...

Some tags, to be sold in sets of three.

And some embellished battenburg lace stockings.

Everything's all packaged up and ready to be turned in at the end of October.

It's truly a Christmas miracle!
