Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Thomas S Monson

Fluffing A Nest (or two)

The robins are back!  Which means spring is here!

Soooo happy about that.

It's been an extra long winter here in northern Utah.

I decided the birds needed a little help with their nests with some pretty nesting material.

So I gathered up some yarn scraps and a wire heart thing.

Cut the yarn in 4ish inch pieces and stuffed it in the wire heart thing.

And hung it in the garden.

Not an original idea, of course.  Saw this on Pinterest.

I hope the birds can find it.

If they do we'll have the most colorful nests in the county.

Fabric Flower Corsage

Have you ever seen something on someones blog that is so cute that you had to run right
down to your craft room and make one for yourself?

Well, that's exactly what happened to me the other night.

I saw these adorable fabric flowers on The Polka Dot Closet.
Carol's blog is so fun and her tutorials are so easy to follow.

She made a bridal bouquet for her daughter in law with
these flowers!  Talk about a labor of love.

I used fabric that I had in my stash.  The flower's center is
an old pair of cheap earrings with the post removed.  But a
sparkly button would work.

These have a pin on the back so you could pin them on a coat or sweater but they'd be fun glued on a barrette or headband too.

Guest Bath

I don't know about you, but when I hear company's coming to stay a few days, I start thinking about all the things I'd like to get done before they arrive.

One of the items on my list was the guest bathroom in the basement.

It was pretty much a basic alabaster box when I started.  Functional but not very inviting.

The first thing I needed was a little storage.  I bought the cabinet from Just A Bed of Roses
in Farmington, Utah a couple of years ago.  It needed some paint and a new top, and the Mister was tired of it taking up space in the garage, so we got to work.  It's not very deep but so perfect for extra towels and toilet paper.

There are no windows in this bathroom so I thought it needed some bright colors to lighten it up some.

Target had this shower curtain on sale last year.

So many colors to work with.  Perfect!

Now when the grandkids come to visit everyone has their own towel color.

Gotta have a few fun accessories.

 .

Not too much work and what a difference it made.

We had fun with our company too.

AND another thing off our to do list.

Progress

Hope you all had as nice an Easter as we had.

Church in the morning then family and friends over for dinner.

It was a beautiful, warm spring day here in northern Utah.

My favorite kind of day.

This little bunny rabbit jar was my one and only Easter craft this year.

I filled them with Reese's Pieces Easter eggs and gave them away.

We (meaning he) are making progress on our bookcases.

One of the sides is finished.

The other side has it's base completed.

It takes us (meaning him) a long time to finish a project.  But when it's done, it's done right.

Pretty good considering he's figuring out how to make these cabinets as he goes.

I'm looking forward to unloading some boxes of books and such that have been taking up space in our storage room.

Looks like I could spend some time cleaning up the place...
