Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Thomas S Monson

"Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years.  You are as young as your faith,

Meet Obie

A couple of weeks ago we got a phone call from Hearts to Paws, the rescue where we
found our little dog Max.  They said they wondered if we would foster a dog for a
few days.  We said sure, why not.

So we brought him home.

He and Max hit it off right away.  They play and play and wrestle and chase and
then they play some more.

They share toys and food and treats.

And after all their playing and wrestling they sleep like the
babies they are.  Both of them are about nine months old.

Which means they like to chew things like shoes and furniture.
And they sometimes forget where they're supposed to go to the bathroom.

But it looks like Obie is here to stay.
Can you see him smiling?

Whoever says you can't buy happiness has never adopted a dog.

Pioneer Day

Today is a state holiday here in our beautiful Utah.

July 24, 1847 was the day the first pioneers drove their covered wagons down
into the Salt Lake Valley.

So we celebrate by marching in parades, eating too much at barbecues and picnics,
shoo the mosquitoes away at large and small firework displays,  and
getting together with family and friends.

Kind of sounds like the 4th of July doesn't it?

Hollyhocks

A couple of years ago I planted six hollyhock seedlings.

I watered them and fed them and before long they were taller than me.

They were very well behaved and I thought they were quite pretty.

The next spring I saw little leaves poking up out of the ground where the hollyhocks had
been the year before.   How great!  They've come back and they've brought
some friends with them!

I saw another plant coming up clear across the driveway and lawn.

And a few more here and there in odd places.

The flowers were several shades of pink and burgundy.

And a few double white ruffly ones.

I still think they're so pretty.  But they're not very well behaved.

Obviously they love to party!

So perfect for a cottage garden.

Light Garland

I saw this cute idea on Pinterest quite a while ago and wanted to make one for myself.

So I did.

I sat in the nice cool basement and cut strips from scraps of
fabric I had left over from other projects.

Tied them to an LED light string I bought at the after Christmas sales.

And there you go.  Simple.  Easy. I think I'll attach it to my trailer's awning
the next time we go camping.

I need to find another project to work on down in the basement.  It's 102 degrees today!
