Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Cold and Gray

Since moving to Utah from the central coast of California in 2002, January has not been my favorite month of the year. This year has been particularly cold and gloomy. The skies have been overcast, we've had bad air quality every single day for weeks and weeks. Last night thick fog covered our part of the state. This morning we woke up to a winter wonderland.

That's why I put a picture of one of our roses from last summer in the header.
I need a little color and a reminder that we'll be out of the cold and gray eventually. I hope.

I don't know how you stand it, since you are used to milder weather. I keep telling my husband "I will not move any farther north than the red river"; I'd die if I thought he wanted to move back to his home state, which is only Oklahoma! Even that is too far north!

Hello Mimi,
I totally understand--I always get the gloomies (is that even a word :) in January. I love the picture of the rose in your header. I was just revisiting some of my photos from the Summer and came across my rose pictures. Take heart--it will not be long before Spring's arrival. Until then at least we have our photos as proof that it will indeed return. Stay warm.

I don't know what winter's are like in Utah but I'm sure it's a difficult adjustment from California. Pittsburgh winters are very grey, which to me is the hardest part...more than the snow or the cold. As Mimi before me said, we have the gloomies here. I think it's something like 62 days until Spring...it can't come soon enough for me! (Your rose is beautiful!)

Hi Mimi:
I have been in Las Vegas for the past 8 days and going back to Utah tomorrow. I dread going back to the snow and ice and freezing cold, after being here in 65* weather. We still have a long winter ahead.

Oh my goodness, it's cold there. The photos are beautiful though. A big change from the central coast though and that mild climate. My husband's step-dad lives in Nipomo. I think the climate there is even milder than where we grew up in the Redondo Beach area.
Blessings,
Marcia

I don't like prolonged gray weather either. It is not as cold here in South Texas, but it has been cloudy most of December and January. It have been raining quite a bit too, so there is plenty of mud!
Blessings,

Pretty snow pictures! It will be nice when winter is over ~ no more cold and gray.

We had a spring-like day yesterday. It was wonderful.

I'm thinking of you! Make some hot chocolate, put a good movie on and light the fireplace if you have one!
Sonds good to me! That is what I miss about the seasons!
I do know what you mean with the cold, I grew up in Utah! My mother made us Hot Chocolate with toast often. I miss that! Thinking of you! You have a warm heart!

When I lived outside of FL briefly (SC,GA)I had to be so careful not to let the numerous gray days get me down. Stay warm and turn on lots of lights, surround yourself with colors. Oh, and eat one of those adorable Symphony bars!

Hi Mimi Sue....you actually moved to this weather on purpose?? I didn't realize that you used to live in California....Ofcourse that state is certainly no bargain....You need to come to Georgia....We have all 4 seasons....so real natural disasters....well, a tornado every now and again....and last week it was 12 degrees and today....65!!
we do have a problem in Atlanta during the fall with an over abundance of leaves....but we just let them blow on our neighbors lawn......

I know. January is always hard for me too. This year has been extra hard with the air and hardly any blue skies. Hang in there-- we'll get to spring someday:)
