Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Upside Down Tomatoes

I'm sure you've all seen these Topsy Turvey planters on TV.

We found some at our local garden center and decided to give them
a try.  They worked pretty good.

You have to water them every single day.

On extra hot days you have to water them twice.

You have to feed the tomato plants at least once a week.

But they're starting to produce.

No bending over to pick your produce.

No weeds.

Kind of fun.

Sweet 100's

My friend tried one of these and had good luck, too.
And yes...it was a YSA activity. : )

Oh how I envy you! I did not get any tomatoes planted this year. Very sad. One of my favorite pleasures in the world are tomato sandwiches!! Well, maybe next year I will give these topsy turvy tomatoes a try!

My sister in-law has done this for two years with good results. She even did pickles this years.
I think it's a great way to grow when you don't have much space.

I threw all my topsy turveys away last year. I just didn't have the patience to water them every day and feed them every week.

Wish I'd been brilliant enough to do that this year. We planted several that didn't even make it a week. But alas, we ARE harvesting~just not as many or as large as I'd like. I'll take notes on your experience this year and follow suit in 2012.

I too know many that love this product & I have been tempted. But its so ugly! And high maintenance!

I have never tried one of these, I usually make my own with a plastic pot and drilling holes all over it! I thought they were squirrel safe but there aren't!
Yours look lovely. Lots of tomatoes!
