Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Ivy

I love houseplants.  Ferns, ficus, palms, peace lilies, pothos, I love them all.

I think it comes from being a young wife in the early 70's.  We all
had plants hanging from macrame hangers all over our one bedroom apartments.
We were pretty groovy back then.

Houseplants seem to add a little life to a room, especially in the winter
when there's not much green or growing outside.

One of my favorite plants is ivy.  I especially love ivy topiaries that come in all
shapes and sizes.

I've had this one for a few years now.  It loves the north facing window it sits
in front of.  I water it a couple of times a week and feed it every now and then.

About every six months it needs a little trim.

Looks like this one does too.

I take the trimmings and stick some of them in small bottles filled with water.

I just love these little ivy sprigs.  They fit just about anywhere.

When they grow nice long roots I take them out of the bottles and plant them all together in a small clay pot.  Then I have another ivy plant to set on the front porch or somewhere in my house or give to someone as a gift.  Or if you still have your macrame hanger, that would work too.

Macrame! I made belts, purses, and yes, plant hangers! I remember those days well, and even took a houseplant class in college lol! Your plants are lovely and look so healthy!

Your ivy is so pretty and healthy! We must think along the same lines because I just brought in a few sprigs of ivy from outside and put them in water for a little greenery in the house. I don't have much luck with ivy in the ground in the house so this works well. Oh, yes, I remember the 70's well.

Have a good weekend, Mimi!

Your ivy topiaries look great! Can't believe you've had one for years! I have the hardest time with ivy - don't know why since I'm pretty good with all plants.

I've always had a thing for ivy. So pretty! Unfortunately my indoor plant skills are legendary, and not in a good way.
