Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. A Time To Plant

After this long, cold winter it's been so nice to be able to get out in the garden and play in the dirt.

We don't plant here in northern Utah until the middle of May,

just in case there's a hard freeze that wipes out all your hard work.

Even though we shouldn't plant, there's a lot of plants in bloom.

Like this beautiful Clematis.

It looks like we'll be harvesting strawberries soon.

At least the ones the birds don't eat.

The lilacs are planted by our front porch.

Their fragrance is amazing every time we walk by.

A few years ago we planted this pretty blue iris.

One of our neighbors gave us a start.

The ajuga was a brilliant blue this year.  Another gift from our cute neighbor.

This week we've been out in the vegetable garden.

We're adding compost, rototilling, pulling weeds,
 buying little starts
and planting little seeds.

Our garden is the place I love to be in the middle of May.

The last few weeks I have been learning the names of so many new and beautiful plants. Ajuga is a new one whose color I love. I have to get to the nursery to ask about so many different plants I would love for my garden.

Hi Mimi. The weather is really beautiful here for planting. I've got a few annuals in, but wish everything had bloomed together. My lilacs are all through now and the Lady Banks roses. Didn't seem to last long enough this season..All your blue is gorgeous..Happy Wednesday..Judy

Your gardens and lawn look great. That's the best part of May...everything starts to look lush. I do most of my flowers in pots on the deck but I do have perennials in the ground. The peonies are getting ready to pop open and our black raspberry bush is full of flowers...hope we get some berries this year. Enjoy your beautiful yard.

Now that the weather is perfect my time is very busy. I hope to get my yard finished up soon, but boy is it hard to find time to work. I love your spring plants!

Your gardens are gorgeous! Love the beautiful clematis! We are green and lush here, but only in the 50's...I am thinking summer will come, and we will only have had a couple of weeks of spring!
