Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. The Little House Under the Stairs

We have stairs down to our basement, and under
those stairs was the perfect spot for a little
play space.  So the Mister cut out a small square of
drywall for a window  and a bigger rectangle for a door and
trimmed them up.

Of course there'd have to be a window box with flowers
and a mailbox for love letters and notes to tooth fairies and
Santa Claus.

It's the perfect little space for the vintage 1950's (60's?)
Betsy Wetsy

that I found at a yard sale.

And a great place to hang a cowboy hat.

There's a place to store some dishes and have a snack.

And what would a little house be without a kitchen?

The hutch in the little kitchen is a wicker bathroom shelf
turned upside down.  The perfect spot for little dishes.

Our grandkids (and some of the neighborhood kids)  love this little space. They spend hours playing here.

And there's not an electronic game of any kind in sight...

Love the use of that space!
We've been house hunting recently, and we looked at a house that they had done something similar to the storage space under the stairs.
My husband thought it was a great idea, and I thought it was dumb. As we don't have any grands, and not sure when we will have any. Now that I've seen the way that your play space is outfitted and decorated, I want to have one just like it! You've inspired me :)

Have a great day.

Morning, oh such a adorable little place under the stairs. Don't blame the kids for playing there for hours, I would too, :) Francine.

Too fun Sue! I wish I was little enough to play in there too! LOL I remember seeing one similar where they had all the grandchildren's names cut out in vinyl using different fonts - then applied them to the walls every which way - it was special!

I love it. If I lived near by I would come over and play in it too.

You have created a perfect place for children to use their imaginations! I would love to come and play, too! Do you have play food....always my favorite when I was little! Have fun with your little playmates!
