Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Fabulous Finds

It seems we're at the end of the yard sale season here in Utah. The weather has started to turn cold so our summertime fun is pretty much over until next spring. Oh, there will be the occasional estate sale, but we all know the real bargains are scored at the yard sales. Sigh. Thank goodness for our lovely thrift stores. I did a little thrifting last week and ended up with some pretty good deals. For example, this little tin tray. Loved the colors and loved the saying. Not to mention there's a little bird on it. $1.50. I'm thinking I want to try for an all white bathroom in the basement. So I picked up this little ceramic fish vase for $1.00.I found these old kitchen cabinets for $2.00 each when I was driving by an apartment building that's being renovated. They had a big pile of cabinets and people were hauling these things off by the truckload. They're going to be installed in the laundry room over the washer and dryer. They need to be painted and trimmed up some. This will be a winter project and they're going to be fabulous!
I've been looking for an extra dresser for our bedroom for a while and found this beauty at our local Deseret Industries for $75.00. This will get a coat of black or cream paint. The veneer on the top has some chunks out of the sides. The mister might have to replace the top, we'll see how it goes. Love the little wheels, love the shape, love just about everything about it.

Now I need to get off the computer and get started on some of these projects!

Love your goodies!!! The dresser is good- If the veneer is good, and attached well other than the chips- simply fill with wood filler and sand- then put on your fabulous coat of paint!!

Maybe I'm weird, but I love that dresser just as it is! There's something about the age and wear showing that I just love; the sense of history, I think!

Oh my goodness, we just bought an old fixer-upper dresser like that a few months ago...and have done nothing with it yet! I can't wait to see how you transform yours! :)

I never find neat stuff at garage sales or at DI! I think your area has better garage sales than mine. Let me know if you find a local source for vintage fabric. That is another thing I never find.

I am a friend of Annie's and have been blog stalking you...hope you don't mind. :)

I had forgotten how much fun it is to fix up old things and make them new again. Annie has been helping me paint a yard sale find and it is looking fabulous. Can't wait to get it in my house.

Make sure you post your after pictures so we can see how it all turns out. I LOVE that dresser! I would love to know the history of it. It looks as if there would be many stories to tell...
