Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Little Red Chair

Look what I found at Hobby Lobby last week!  If you don't have a Hobby Lobby near you
I'm so sorry!  Love that store.  Anyway, they had a couple of different kinds of little chairs
embroidered on tea towels.  I had to buy the one with the red chair.

 Why?
Because I have a real little red chair.  It was my great grandmothers.  She was less than 5 ft tall and kept it in her kitchen and used it to stand on to reach things in upper cabinets.  I love this little chair.  And I love the towel.  And you already know I love Hobby Lobby.
(Yes I know the baseboard is missing.  It's #267 on our to do list.)

Cushy for Our Tushy

I've been wanting some soft, cushy chairs for our dining area ever since we moved into
this house more than 3 years ago.  Last week I finally got some.
We like to sit here in the morning with our bowls of cheerios and read the paper
and now we can do it in comfort.  Plus we can move them around if
we need extra seating in the family room.

They're from IKEA.  Only $49.00.

I bought the slipcovers from a catalog a while back and can't remember the name of the company.
They were a great deal too.  I couldn't have made them for what I paid for them.  I'll try to remember where I got them.  (It'll come to me in the middle of the night I'm sure!)
Because the back legs are curved I couldn't pull the slipcover down over them so I was going to hem them
but my neighbor came over and said she liked them shimmied up like this.  So I might just leave them alone.
I'm so happy to have them.  I love checks almost as much as I love polka dots.

Polka Dot Cookies

You do know I'm very fond of polka dots.  I love them on just about anything.
So I thought why not make some polka dot cookies Mimi Sue?  OK, why not?

First you make your favorite sugar cookie recipe.

Then you get some of these little bottles and fill them with royal icing that you tint with food coloring.  I make royal icing with meringue powder, (you can get it at Michaels or Hobby Lobby) and not raw egg whites so no one gets sick.
Then you outline your cookie with the icing,  add a few squiggles inside the outline, then fill it in with a knife.
Then you take some plain white icing and make the polka dots.

Then you take some of these adorable cookies to your neighbors and friends.  I'm sure they'll love you if you do.

This post is dedicated to Lisa, the polka dot queen.
