Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Barns, Sheds, and Coops

I just love little outbuildings. We actually have an old chicken coop in our backyard. We think it was probably built in the 1920's. It's in pretty bad shape. The roof leaks, the cracks between the boards lets a lot of wind and cold in, there are all kinds of bugs, wasps, and spiders that think it's their home. Everyone in the neighborhood thinks it needs to be torn down. But I love it, even with all it's defects.
We're going to build a brand new shed. I want it to look like it's been here awhile. We've talked to some shed companies, we've looked at the kits from the depot, but the mister wants to build it himself. Which doesn't surprise me one bit. So I've been out taking pictures of some vintage sheds and small barns. I love the quirkiness of this one.
Love the color on this one. I'd have more storage in it because it could have a loft. We want to use it for storage of summer stuff during the winter and maybe a place where I could paint furniture and do projects in the summer. So what do you guys think? Anyone have any pictures of barns or sheds or coops? I know you all are creative so help me out here. We are pouring the slab for a 12 x 20 foot building next week. So we've got to figure out something pretty quick.

I want a shed with french doors! I'd call it my art studio. I don't know how much art I'd do there though.

Your spooky tree looks pretty cute!

As to your question about where I shop...I shop just about every DI along the Wasatch Front. If there's a DI close, my car automatically pulls into the parking lot. ;~)

Wow, you guys are busy, putting in a yard and building a shed. I'm sure what ever you come up with it will be darling. I bought most of my decorations from the rabbit garden, although I did love the copper frog. I'm sad it's gone. Rabbit Garden I hear is having a good sale this weekend! I think I might try and get away better conference session so check it out!

Yes, I agree with you, I like the old look, too. How will you make the exterior look aged?
Terrific idea of french doors, too, that will let in lots of light, plus it will look pretty. Good luck with the building process!

Great shed pictures! We have a big one that looks like a barn.

To answer your question (couldn't find a email for you), that's a slipcover on the parsons chair. I'm fortunate to live by not one but two Ballard Outlet stores! I like changing things around and I love being able to change the look of my parsons chairs!

Your chicken coop is so awesome--esp the red barn star. I think every shed, or bar, or shack needs one. I say build your shed to look like a red barn. With lots of cute windows. And a huge barn star.

I like the look of those old sheds. Just try to keep it rustic looking with old decorations.

Hi Mimi,
I've been trying to catch up on my blogging , I really like your shed, I guess I'm partial to old things. If only walls could talk could they ever tell us some
stories!I wish I had a picture to send you but as creative as you seem to be I know that you will find something that is just right for you.

I had to go back a few posts to try and catch up. I too have trouble with my computer I am glad you have someone nearby to help.

I really enjoyed all of your pictures and your thoughts . Please keep it up. It is an encouragement to me ,since we both started about the same time.

Blessings,
Sue
