Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Travel Journal

OK, so you already know I haven't had an original idea since 1994. The great thing about blogging is you really don't need original ideas. Wonderful, creative, cute projects are everywhere you look. A while back I was over at Suzanne Duda's blog, Pink Roses and found this great idea. A travel journal... I bought a black art notebook, a white marker and a glue stick.
Every evening, when we're on vacation, we empty our pockets and bags and I start gluing. Receipts, brochures, and postcards get stuck in the book. I like to write a little about what we did that day. It doesn't take very long and it's best if you do it that night so all the things you want to remember are fresh in your mind.

I've been adding programs and receipts if we go to a concert or museum locally. It really cuts down on the little bits and pieces I used to stick in a junk drawer and then throw away a year later.

It's really fun looking back on the fun trips we've taken.

I found a new blog the other day, The Stone House. Lewaina has a similar journal. Only her journal is her life's journey. Go check it out.

Not at all. I'm Flattered.
I love, love, love the trip journal idea, I always save every little thing, i.e. napkins from the creamery in Tillamook....but what do I do with them? Maybe stick one in a childs scrapbook??? ( lots of that stuff never makes it into the house from the car)
You can bet I gonna have trip journals from here on out. I need to go somewhere so that I can begin:-) By the way, Hello, and , it is nice to meet you Mimi! I enjoy my visits to your Cottage. Lewaina
May I add the link back to you on your trip journals?

This is a wonderful way to journal vacations. I think I could actually do this. If I waited until I got home, it would never be put together! I love the white on the black. Such a great background.

What a great idea, and it will always be enjoyable to look back at the places you've been and things you've done.

What a good idea! You're smart to do it on your trip, too. So cool. Of course, I can only imagine how I'd do it now with kids--and them finding the glue in the car and destructing the interior of my van...or it would be full of who threw up and who fought the most...I think I'll do this when they grow up a little. :)

Hi Mimi,
Just last Summer we had the opportunity to take a trip of a life time to Greece to visit my husband's family. Before we left I created travel journals for myself, my mother in law and my sister in law.(there are pictures of them on my blog) I was so glad to have this journal on the trip. I too wrote in it during the flight and everynight of our vacation. I love to look back and read about our adventures. Your journal is so cool. I love the way you wrote with a white pen on the black pages. Such a wonderful effect.

Another one of those, "Why didn't I think of that?" ideas. My junque drawer is full of bits but if I put them together now, it'd look like I went skiing in Maui and they moved the Eiffel Tower to Dallas. Thanks for the tip!

What a wonderful idea! I definitely need to do this! I have boxes full of stuff like this waiting to be scrapbooked, but honestly will never happen! I really am going to give your picture back, I promise. It's been a crazy week with two trips to the doctor and then two to the ER. Both of my boys have had the croup, I'm hoping we are all on the mend. I'll call you next week sometime so return your beautiful picture!

I wish I could travel someplace in order to use this journal! I love that you did the black with white lettering. Good idea!

What a wonderful idea! I kept a daily journal when my hubby, daughter and I went to Alaska a few years ago--but I didn't keep the receipts, etc.. When my hubby and I returned two years ago, I kept the receipts, etc, but no journal!! I at least have all of the "paper" I collected while on that trip in one folder--that's a miracle!
I hang on to little momentoes from trips--and life! I have two of the best scrapbooks from high school--my classmates (at our 25 year reunion--and that was several years ago!!) couldn't believe that I even kept the receipt for my class ring--and a lunch ticket that had 5 punches in it!
I won't even go into the stuff I saved from my kids childhood! I'm awful!
Hope you're having a great weekend! Dana
