Mimi Sue's Cottage

A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. Quilts

Every Monday morning a group of ladies meet at our church to quilt.
This group of ladies has been meeting every Monday morning since about 1912.
Well, not the exact group of  ladies, the ladies have changed over time,
but most of this group have been meeting for over 30 years!

There have been marriages, divorces, and deaths. Births of first their children,
and now grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The things that must have been discussed over those quilt frames!
One can only imagine.

A couple of Monday's ago I went over to take a look at a quilt that was just
being finished.  This quilt was begun in 1976.  The artist that made this quilt
sent away for the pattern that she found in the newspaper.  It was a bicentennial quilt depicting
all 50 state birds and flowers which she embroidered by hand.
Every time she started another block, she went to the library and looked up the
colors of the birds and flowers.  She wanted the quilt to be accurate as well as beautiful.
She would embroider a few blocks then put it away for a year or two.
She did this over and over until all 50 states were completed.
Last fall she stitched them all together and brought it to the Monday quilt ladies.
And just look what they did!

Beautiful, Janet!

Really, beautiful isn't the correct word.  It's so much more than beautiful.

Hey Rhode Island,  is your state bird a chicken??  Just wondering.

The following week the quilt ladies put this quilt on the frame.  Something totally different but beautiful in it's own way.  Kind of like the Monday quilt ladies.

So very beautiful! And so much work. I use to be one of those ladies sitting there about 17 years ago. I don't quilt much now, due to arthritis from surgeries.

How beautiful those quilts were. My Mom loved to quilt. She belonged to the quilters guild. I was in awe of her talent.

I don't know what's more amazing, the beautiful quilt or the fact that people get together still and quilt! We've made many quilts for humanitarian but when we were finished we knew they were just for warmth not for looks.

Many friends are made over a quilt.

Yes, The Rhode Island Red "chicken" is our State bird LOL.. I know, it really is funny, but the Red's lay the tastiest eggs. What a beautiful quilt! We have a small quilting group at our church that meets on Mondays as well. I will have to hop over there to catch up on what everyone is doing and I will let you know.

What a beautiful, beautiful quilt full of dedication. I love to hand quilt and all the talk that goes around:)
I remember sitting underneath listening to all the chatter and looking up as the stitches slide in and out of the quilt and a pattern takes shape. Now my little ones do it when I have a quilt on!

I think it really belongs in a museum like a work of art. It is beautiful.

Both quilts are beautiful! I've always loved quilts ~ growing up in Lancaster County with all the Amish quilts. They take a lot of time, patience and talent.
Gorgeous!
